Due to contrasting architectural features it is difficult to determine the exact age of the home. The house provides an example of the raised cottage design popular in southern Louisiana prior to the Civil war.

As the state's official aviation museum, the Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of artefacts and documents related to Louisiana's aviation history. Famous Louisiana aviators Jimmie Wedell and Harry Williams are the focus of the museum's collection, which also includes race trophies from the 1930s, a large collection of model airplanes and a historic hot air balloon basket.
